PT-141 (Bremelanotide): Product & Research Information

Overview

PT-141 (Bremelanotide), is a synthetic peptide analogue derived from the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) family. It has been studied for its activity within the melanocortin receptor system, which is involved in several physiological processes, including sexual function and pigmentation.

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is the active ingredient in Vyleesi, a prescription medicine approved in the United States for a specific indication involving low sexual desire in certain premenopausal women. The approved medicine has defined formulation, dosing, and safety requirements. Its approval does not extend automatically to products marketed online as PT-141 or to unapproved formulations.

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) Mechanism of Action

Bremelanotide acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, including MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R. These receptors participate in different biological signaling pathways.

Research into PT-141 has focused particularly on melanocortin signaling and its relationship to sexual function. Its mechanism differs from that of medications that primarily act on blood flow, and its precise therapeutic mechanism for the approved indication has not been fully established.

The compound’s biological activity should not be interpreted as evidence that every formulation will produce consistent results or that it is appropriate for every individual.

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) Scientific Research and Medical Context

PT-141 has been investigated in research involving melanocortin signaling and sexual function. Clinical research contributed to the development of bremelanotide as a prescription medicine.

In the United States, Vyleesi is approved for the treatment of acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women when the condition causes significant distress or interpersonal difficulty and is not attributable to certain other medical, psychiatric, medication-related, or relationship factors.

The approved medicine is not indicated for postmenopausal women or men with HSDD, and it is not indicated to enhance sexual performance. These limitations are important when interpreting research findings and product descriptions.

Safety and Regulatory Considerations

Bremelanotide is a biologically active compound with clinically significant risks. The prescribing information for Vyleesi identifies nausea, temporary increases in blood pressure, reductions in heart rate, and focal hyperpigmentation among its important adverse effects. It is contraindicated in people with uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease.

These safety findings relate to the approved prescription product and do not establish the safety profile of other PT-141 formulations. Products sold online may differ in identity, concentration, purity, sterility, manufacturing conditions, and storage requirements.

In the United States, approval of Vyleesi does not mean that a separately marketed research vial is FDA-approved for human use. The regulatory status of a particular product depends on its formulation, intended use, jurisdiction, and applicable requirements.

PT-141 should not be described as a risk-free sexual-performance enhancer or as a proven treatment for every cause of reduced sexual desire. Questions about sexual health or possible treatment should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.

Product Documentation of PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

Where genuine documentation is available, relevant information may include the stated chemical identity, batch-specific analytical results, impurity profile, and details of the testing laboratory.

Documentation should correspond to the actual product batch. A certificate of analysis alone does not establish sterility, suitability for human administration, clinical effectiveness, or regulatory approval.
